Shakespeare Lookup Documentation

This system is a demo client server web based system that allows users to query the complete works of Shakespeare for word matches.

Components:

  1. Web Page - Uses to interact with User
    • sslookup.html
  2. sslookupclient - CGI program the Web Pag communicates with through the Apache web server using AJAX
    • sslookupclient.cpp
    • fifo.cpp
  3. sslookupserver - a background program then receives word search requests and returns lines with matching words.

    • textindex (see below)
  4. textindex - a module that takes any text file and builds a complete index. Uses english stemming.

  5. indexdemo - Used for testing the indexing function

Running sslookupserver as a background process

% ./sslookupserver &

Runs it in the background until the parent process (the terminal session) is terminated (logout)

% nohup ./sslookupserver &

Runs it in the background forever, until terminated or the system reboots.

To find it:

ps -aef | grep username
