Lab 4 for CSNE Majors

Overview

Will be continuing with the next 3 learning labs from CISCO. These are more involved labs, and will require some reading and research to understand. A great resource is CCENT/CCNA ICND1 Official Exam Certification Guide, Second Edition .

Steps

  1. Log in at: CISCO Lab Login
  2. Launch the Learning lab
  3. Log in again for the lab
  4. For each lab, if you don't have significant experience setting up Cisco egquipment, it is imporant that you watch he video's for each lab. These are about 14-15 minutes each.
  5. Implementing IPv4 DHCP Services
  6. Implementing Inter-VLAN Routing
  7. Implementing Single-Area OSPFv2
  8. Answer the questions below, and turn in

Answer the following questions, and turn in on Moodle:

  1. What is the list of concepts you learn in this lab?
  2. What is the purpose of DHCP?
  3. What is a DHCP Pool? What is it used for?
  4. What is an excluded address? Why might you exclude an address or address range.
  5. What is the purpose of a default router? What does a device use it for?
  6. How are R2 and R3 given dynamic IP addresses? Where do they get the address from? Why is the address called a "Temporary address"?
  7. What does the "show ip dhcp binding" command tell you?
  8. How do you verify proper connectivity for each connection after it is configured?

  1. In this configutation, which device connects everything else to the Internet?
  2. What is the subnet space that R1 shares with the internet?
  3. What is the difference between a VLAN port and a VLAN trunk port?
  4. What is the address ranges for each of the three subnets?
  5. If a packet must flow from PC1 to PC3, what route will it have to take? Why?
  6. What is the value of having three VLAN's rather then one big LAN?
  7. If we set up another port on SW1 to put an additional PC on the switch, what, specifically, do we have to do?

Questions for "Implementing Single-Area OSPFv2"

  1. What is OSPFv2, and what is it's purpose?
  2. In this lab OSPF is only set up on routers. Why not on SW1?
  3. How many LANS (subnets) are on this network? What are the subnet addresses?
  4. What are the values 1.0.0.1, 2.0.0.2, 3.0.0.3, 4.0.0.4 used for? Are these real IP addresses?
  5. What is the purpose of the Loopback setup? Are these strictly necessary in a OSPF network?
  6. Fill out the Implementation Plan below showing all steps:
