Lab 6 for CSNE Majors

Overview

We will be continuing with the next 3 learning labs from CISCO. These are more involved labs, and will require some reading and research to understand. A great resource is CCENT/CCNA ICND1 Official Exam Certification Guide, Second Edition .

Steps

  1. Log in at: CISCO Lab Login
  2. Launch the Learning lab
  3. Log in again for the lab
  4. For each lab, if you don't have significant experience setting up Cisco egquipment, it is imporant that you watch he video's for each lab. These are about 14-15 minutes each.
  5. Enabling Dynamic Routing to the Main Office
  6. Implementing Access Lists
  7. Implementing Basic NTP
  8. Answer the questions below, and turn in

1. "Enabling Dynamic Routing to the Main Office"

Overview:

In this activity, you will enable the use of the dynamic routing protocol RIP. After completing this activity, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Configure RIP on your workgroup router.
  • Verify that RIP is operating.
  • Remove the now unnecessary static route to an adjacent network.

2. "Implementing Access Lists"

Reading:

In this activity, you will implement and verify the configuration of the named standard and extended access lists. After completing this activity, you will be able to meet these objectives:
  • Use the CLI to configure and verify a named standard access list on Branch that will control the traffic originated from R3
  • Configure and verify a named extended access list on Branch that will control the outbound traffic between the branch routers and Internet.
  • Test the access lists operations using various types of traffic.

  3. Why do we name an access list?
  4. What is the ip access-group command for?
  5. What exactly does the permit 172.16.20.10 do, specifically?
  6. Why does the permit 172.16.1.1 0.0.0.254 in an allow list only allow odd-numbers addresses to be pinged? How would the command changfe to allow ALL addresses in the 172.16.1.0 LAN range to be pinged?
  7. What does that ping with source do? Why is it used here?
  8. What is an extended access list?
  9. What is the difference between outbound and inbound access lists?
  10. What is ICMP? Why do we enable that?

3. "Implementing Basic NTP"

Activity Objective

In this activity, you will implement and verify the configuration of the named standard and extended access lists. After completing this activity, you will be able to meet these objectives:

  • Configure and verify an authoritative NTP server on Branch and allow access only for certain NTP clients
  • Configure and verify NTP clients on R1, R2, and R3
  • Update the NTP client source on R2
