Putting your project on the web

The course has a web site where your work can be put on display. The following example, provided by Dr. Skon, shows how you could place an HTML file called "ball.html" onto the server in a directory where it can be used from a web browser anywhere on the internet.

1. Log into the web server at cs.mvnu.edu using WinSCP
  • Find and run WinSCP in the start menu:

  • Create a connection, hit "Login". Your initial pasword is your MVNU ID number.
    WinSCP3.GIF
  • You will now see your local files (on your PC) on the left, and remote files (on web sever) on the right.
  • Click the open folder button over the right window, and enter in "/var/www/csc3003/username" where username is your user name.
  • Hit "Okay"
    WinSCP4.GIF
  • Drag your file from the left (here "ball.html") to the right window.
  • Cick "copy" on the dialog box:
    WinSCP5.GIF
  • In your web browser, you can now navigate to "cs.mvnu.edu/csc3003/username".
  • Click on the file that you would like to view:
    WinSCP6.GIF
  • Your HTML file should now display in your browser:
