How to setup pfsense on VMware

  1. Install VMware Workstation on you computer (Windows or Linux) (VMWare)
  2. Download pfsense VM
  3. De-archive
  4. Open VMWare Workstation
  5. Under the "Edit" menu open the "Virtual Network Editor"
  6. Select "vmnet0", and set to bridge to your wireless card
  7. Select "vmnet1", and set to bridge to your ethernet card
  8. Select "Open a virtual machine or team"
  9. Browse inth the FreeBSD directory, and select FreeBSD.vmx
  10. Start the VM. Also it to boot up.
  11. Your System should now act as a router/firewall. Any system connected to the ethernet will have its traffic routed through pfSense.
  12. Your ethernet is now a DHCP server. Whatever you plug in should get a ethernet address in the range 192.168.1.(100-200).
  13. From a system on the ethernet, web into Login as "admin", password: "pfsense"
  14. Now you may set up pfSense.
