Project Proposal Outline

1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE

The introductory section describes the purpose of the project. If the project is to develop networked services for an organzation, describe the organization and list the stakeholders and the likely users for whom the project is being developed.

2. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

This section describes the primary functionality or services to be provided by the system. Write one or more paragraphs describing the tasks to be performed, services to be configured. and types of interfaces to be supported. The goal is that all involved audiences (users, designers, and any stakeholders) can all read and understand the functionality that the system is intended to provide.

3. CONSTRAINTS

Any known constraints that will affect development of the system should be described in this section. Typical categories include:

  • available resources (hardware, software, expertise)

  • external environment

  • required interfaces (with existing hardware, software systems and networks)

  • cost limits

  • schedule requirements (if different from the course schedule)
