Quiz Chapter 11

1. Describe changes that took place when WPA2 was implemented to replace WPA.

2. What is a wireless mesh network? What is their major advantage?

  1. One major change in WPA2 is the fact that AES is required with WPA2 and it was not with WPA. This makes WPA2 more secure than its predecessor. Another change with WPA2 is the ability for a client to switch between two access points without losing connection. This is done by using the caching of Pair-wise Master Key. This makes it so that a client can change access points without having to re-authenticate because the two access points can share the authentication of the client. This allows allows for a client to disconnect from an access point and then reconnect at a later time without having to go through the authentication process.
  2. A wireless mesh network is a group of routers at are interconnected and a single router that is connected to the network and shares its connection with the rest of the routers. The system can be setup to be self-organizing and to automatically add and remove nodes.
