Quiz Chapter 18

Is anti-malware software useful even if it can be evaded by new or modified malware? Why?

Answer:

Yes, even though there are still malware infections that may occur, anti-malware software “still serves a purpose as a component in a defense-in-depth-strategy” (Vacca, 302). Even if several malware programs get through the anti-virus software, many more are prevented from infecting the system. Prevention of vast numbers of known malware will allow the system to function faster and cleaner. This makes identifying and removing the current malware much easier if not possible at all. Even though anti-virus or anti-Malware programs are generally not 100% effective, they are still an important part of intrusion prevention.
