Useful tutorials:

Note: For vista when the guide talks about editing my.ini which is in C:\Program Files\MySQL\ you need to find wordpad under accessories in the start menu, right click->run as administrator and open the file this way or you won't be able to save.

install TortoiseSVN: (A really nice graphical interface to Subversion and in my opinion the best client)

Setting up the environment:

if you choose aptana open it and goto help->software updates->find and install check install new software, install the radrails and the subclipse plugin

goto window->show view->other, under SVN select SVN repository and click ok

you should see an svn repository tab, click it and then click the button SVN+ at the top right of the window, add: https://www.lifeinmotionresources.com/svn/lim_rails/branches/lim_report

Right click on the newly added repository and checkout, when it asks say as a new project, select rails project

edit config/database.yml to match you settings heres an example:

# MySQL (default setup). Versions 4.1 and 5.0 are recommended.
#
# Install the MySQL driver:
# gem install mysql
# On MacOS X:
# gem install mysql -- --include=/usr/local/lib
# On Windows:
# gem install mysql
# Choose the win32 build.
# Install MySQL and put its /bin directory on your path.
#
# And be sure to use new-style password hashing:
# http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/old-client.html
development:
  adapter: mysql
  database: lim_development
  username: lim
  password: whales
  host: localhost

# Warning: The database defined as 'test' will be erased and
# re-generated from your development database when you run 'rake'.
# Do not set this db to the same as development or production.
test:
  adapter: mysql
  database: lim_test
  username: lim
  password: whales
  host: localhost

production:
  adapter: mysql
  database: lim_production
  username: lim
  password: whales
  host: localhost

under rake tasks type db:schema:load and your database schema should be loaded into your database from the file db/schema.rb, start a server in the Servers tab and start developing
